The Irish Association of Social Workers (IASW) strongly condemns the recent violent attack on members of the Indian community in Ireland. We are deeply shocked and saddened by this act of violence, which runs counter to the principles of inclusivity, diversity, and mutual respect that underpin our society.
This incident comes at a particularly distressing time, following the recent cancellation and postponement of the India Day festival in Dublin over safety fears. The decision to postpone such an important cultural event highlights the very real concerns about the safety and well-being of the Indian community here in Ireland.
The IASW also unequivocally condemns any attacks or discrimination directed at people of colour, recognizing that racism and violence against ethnic minority communities have no place in our society.
We express solidarity with those affected by these attacks and with all communities targeted because of their ethnic or cultural identity. No individual should ever have to live in fear of violence or discrimination.
We call on the authorities to thoroughly investigate these incidents and take decisive action to protect vulnerable communities and uphold justice.
The IASW remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting an Ireland where all people, regardless of background or skin colour, can live with dignity, safety, and respect. We urge all members of society to stand united against hatred and violence and to foster a culture of inclusion and mutual understanding.
