Who We Are?

The Irish Association of Social Workers is the national professional body for social workers in the Republic of Ireland. It was founded in 1971 and has a membership of over 1,300 social workers. The IASW is an active member of the International Federation of Social Workers, which represents professional social work associations from over 55 different countries with more than 350,000 social workers in all parts of the world.

About Social Work

The Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is elected every year by the Membership at the AGM. The Board of Directors oversee operational tasks on behalf of the Association such as Membership, Treasury, Conferences and Seminars, Policy Development, Journal, Line Managing Employees, CPD, Communications and International Affairs. The Directors are the legal and governance structure of the Association whose responsibilities include IASW compliance with CRO requirements (e.g. submission of annual audited accounts).

The Annual General Meeting

General meetings of members of the Association are the means by which members hold the Board of Directors to account, vote in new Board members, accept audited accounts and vote upon constitutional issues as well of matters of policy and strategy. An IASW Annual General Meeting of members is held in the spring or summer of each year.
