All students graduating in any given year will automatically move to ANNUAL (one payment) First Year Post Qualify membership in March of the following year (regardless of when they joined or when they paid the last student fee). To pay your fee in monthly instalments, the member must contact the Office Administrator before 1st March.

15 Feb 23 UPDATE: Dr Paul Michael Garrett, the first Social Worker to receive the honour of Membership of the Royal Irish Academy

In June 2020 Dr Paul Michael Garrett was the first Social Worker to recieve the honor of membership of the Royal Irish Academy. On Friday 16th of December, Dr Paul Michael Garrett was formally admitted as a member of the Irish Royal Academy at an in-person event at the RIA in Dublin. Paul Michael Garrett remains a lecturer as the University of Galway where he helped inaugurate the first social work programme in the west of Ireland in 2004. His most recent acclaimed book is Dissenting Social Work: Critical Theory, Resistance and Pandemic (Routledge, 2021). According to the International Journal of Social Welfare, he is ‘probably the most important critical social work theorist in the English-speaking world’.
